Classification of amalgamated division
The board decided to classify the newly amalgamated Eastern Ranges Division as rural. The Eastern Ranges Division comprises the former Yarra Valley Division and Sherbrooke & Pakenham Division. There are now 15 rural and 15 urban divisions in Victoria.
The board noted that GPDV�s planned Program Divisions in GP Education and Training is based on the findings of the GPDV Education Report by Bob Burgell and emphasises support for GP education programs, especially Continuing Professional Development (CPD), in Victorian divisions. CPD is seen as a core role by divisions and the report identified a statewide role for GPDV.
GPDV has met with the GPET Board to put a proposal for funding a staff person at GPDV, but the response was not positive. The GPET Board feel that divisions are already funded adequately.
The board noted that the Divisions in GP Education and Training Program cannot be implemented without specific funding.
The board noted that, following the ADGP Vision for Divisions Summit in July, ADGP is preparing a Draft Divisions Network Policy Paper with a view to presenting a strategic direction for the future of the Divisions Network and influencing the 2002/2003 Federal Budget process. ADGP is seeking input from SBOs to identify the five key issues emerging from the Vision for Divisions Summit as well as identification of any key issues that we feel were not addressed.
The key role for divisions is to engage the less active GPs, by providing and promoting good services for them. For SBOs the key role is to give divisions support, expertise and resources to do this.
The board agreed that GPDV will draft a succinct response to ADGP focussing on the following issues and suggested requesting a copy of all comments from divisions to ADGP, to gain an understanding of the key issues at division level.
The board noted the paper presented in response to its request at the last meeting for a briefing on the WestVic Clinical Risk Management Project and received a report from Rob Grenfell.
The board noted the importance of this project, which involves all rural divisions. The board resolved to support the division on this issue and seek a meeting with Chris Brook and Shane Solomon, and to involve Peter Waxman.
