IT in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF)
In conjunction with the state based organisations in other states and AGPN, GPV has been writing a guide for GPs, RACFs and divisions on the options available for the GP to have access to electronic records when working in an aged care facility.
For good patient care, record keeping and being able to access accurate records is essential. When a GP visits an RACF, the patient records are often in the general practice. Aged care facilities often work from different clinical and care planning software and may have different internet and email systems than the GP. The challenge is to provide a computer system that allows both the facility and the GP to have access to records.
There are many ways that GPs can access records, print information in the facility and manage prescription writing and the system chosen will depend on the facility�s IT system. This guide will address the various options available to GPs and facilities and their advantages and disadvantages.
It is expected that a draft paper will be available for review and comment mid June.
