Data Extraction and Analysis Evaluation
Implementation, assessment & guidance for the use of primary care data tools
Project background
GPV has been funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing to undertake a study to evaluate the barriers and opportunities to improve the uptake of data extraction and analysis tool in divisions and general practice.
To progress the Australian Government�s e-Health and primary health care agenda, the Department of Health & Ageing (DoHA) is committed to assisting divisions, general practices, & general practitioners (GPs) to adopt best-practice information management behaviours and systems that will ultimately enable and encourage them to analyse and report patient level administration and clinical data. Furthermore, the collected data will help to support evidence-based practice and population health initiatives.
The GPV study will focus on identifying the socio-technical barriers and opportunities that support the use of data extraction and analysis tools in a range of primary care contexts.
Project Objectives
There are two objectives for this project:
- to identify the socio-technical barriers and opportunities that support the use of data extraction and analysis tools in a range of primary care contexts
- to use the information management change management framework of people, process, technology, and culture in the analysis, to understand how these tools are incorporated (or not) into daily professional practice.
Project Outcomes
The project will deliver the following key outcomes:
- collection of data (qualitative and quantitative) to inform the investigation being conducted by the DoHA consultant
- document and analyse the range of implementation processes and activities that support best practice in the use of data extraction and analysis tools for divisions and general practice
- document and analyse the range of strategies, research and ethical, privacy and security protocols that need to be observed
- documentation of best practice implementation guides and case studies.
