It is the aim of GPV to maximise the learning opportunities for all practice nurses and qualified aboriginal health workers in Victoria by advertising and supporting professional development.

General Practice Queensland and the Qld Provincial Workgroup developed a "Nursing in General Practice: Education and Training - A Tool Kit" in 2006-07 for staff in Divisions of General Practice who are responsible for conducting education or network events for the Nursing in General Practice program.

Continuing Professional Development
According to the NBV �The aim of Continuing Professional Development is to ensure the knowledge and competence you acquired during undergraduate and post graduate education remains current while new information is translated into your practice. It is a professional responsibility for all practising nurses to maintain their competence to practise�. The new legislation is expected to be fully implemented by 2009 and a transition period during the preceding period will allow for the development of portfolios.

Scholarships
There are various avenues for nurses to gain assistance for study through scholarships.
PapScreen Victoria
PapScreen is offering financial assistance for Victorian Division 1 Registered Nurses to become Pap test providers. Successful applicants can apply for up to to $1000 assistance to complete an accredited RCNA Pap test provider training course. Applications close 6 June 2008.
