Refugee Immunisation Project

 

Overview

 

For the year 2007-8 GPV received funding from the Department of Health and Ageing to determine the barriers to achieving better childhood immunisation rates for children with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Early work on this project has identified that those children most likely to miss out on childhood immunisation are from recently arrived population groups, and often those who are refugees.

 

 

Objectives

 

 The objectives of this project are to: 

 

  • Determine the barriers and enablers to higher immunisation rates for children of CALD background, especially those of refugee background.
  • Provide support to divisions of general practice to develop, coordinate, and implement strategies aimed at improving coverage rates amongst culturally and linguistically diverse children.
