Aims of meeting:

 

          Inform division staff of the new Mental Health MBS items for GPs and allied health providers and provide an opportunity for discussion concerning the impact of the new items on the ATAPS projects

          Provide advice to divisions as to the training, skill set, workforce distribution and therapies that approved psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists can offer GP patients under the MBS

          Hear the consumer/carer perspective about the new MBS items from SANE Australia

          Provide an opportunity for division-based discussion about the impact of the new items on divisions� work in mental health

          Inform divisions about the forthcoming ADGP �Can Do� Initiative and Centre for Excellence in Eating Disorders (CEED) Consultation Service.

 


 

COAG Mental health Initiatives


Dianne Knight, Director, Community Services Section, Mental Health and Suicide Program Branch, DoHA provided an update on the Better Outcomes in Mental Health program. There was discussion with divisions around the impact of new items on the Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) projects.

 


 

COAG Mental Health Initiatives


This session provided an opportunity for division staff to hear from representatives from the Australian Psychological Society, Occupational Therapy Australia, the Australian Association of Social Workers, and from SANE Australia, the national consumer organisation for people with a mental illness. The panel presenters described the role of their constituent allied health workforce in metropolitan and rural settings and what these practitioners can offer patients of GPs under the new items.

Division Discussion on the new MBS Items and ATAPS


This session was based on small group discussion of the new MBS items and their impact on the ATAPS projects, for both rural and metropolitan divisions, followed by a large group discussion. Topics raised to date include:

 

          The preparation of the DoHA management plan for ATAPS due April 2007

          Supporting relationships between GPs and allied health providers

          The role of divisions in delivering mental health

"Can Do" Initiative


Jane Westley, Senior Project Officer � Mental Health, ADGP, made a presentation on the ADGP-funded �Can Do� Initiative: Managing Mental Health and Substance Use in General Practice, and its implications for divisions in 2007.

CEED (Centre for Excellent in Eating Disorders)


Stephanie Jones, Director, Centre for Excellence in Eating Disorders (CEED) introduced the clinicians of the state-wide CEED Eating Disorder Consultation Service and discussed their role in relation to general practice.
