"General Practice Education: The Way Forward" - Final Report of the Ministerial Review of General Practice Training The Review identified the need to enhance integration and collaboration in the education system as a means to facilitate effective continuity of learning in a general practice setting. See the below website for more information: General Practice Education and Training The Board of General Practice Education and Training was established to oversee general practice education and training in 2002. The Board oversees the regionalisation of vocational training and the move to a contestable funding arrangement for general practice training. New initiatives included the introduction of a dedicated rural training stream and incentives for registrars who chose to train in rural and remote areas. It was envisaged that these developments would draw together key stakeholders including Divisions of General Practice, new Clinical Schools being established by the Government in regional areas, and University Departments of Rural Health to improve general practice education and training. The Board is broadly representative of key players involved in general practice education including the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Universities, Divisions of General Practice and consumers.
