World Health Organisation (WHO) - Towards an International Consensus on Policy for Long-Term Care of the Ageing
This report describes initial actions in devising an international consensus on policy for long-term care for frail elderly persons. The report is the work of policy makers and experts from 11 countries, convened by the Ageing and Health Programme of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Milbank Memorial Fund. The Ageing and Health Programme's main aim is to promote principles that can ensure the attainment of the highest possible quality of life in older age for the largest possible number of people.

A New Strategy for Community Care - March 2003
This consultation paper gives an overview of the Commonwealths thinking on community care. The stated aim of the paper is to outline the fundamental principles that will facilitate a more integrated system for people who require services. The model proposes the use of a standardised community care intake and assessment system, which will achieve greater equity of access and simplify entry points for people requiring care.

Older Patients Attending General Practice in Australia 2000-02

This report is the first study of GP encounters with older patients in Australia. It is a secondary analysis of data from the third and fourth years of the BEACH program. It describes the characteristics of older patients and the content of their GP encounters. Comparisons are made between the encounters with patients aged 65-74 years, and those aged 75 years or more. Results are also compared with an earlier study conducted in 1990-91. This report examines the management rates and prevalence of the most common chronic conditions.
