GPDV Board summary
Friday 12 August 2005
1. Division Board Visits
Since the last board meeting board members have visited 5 divisions - Mallee, Western Melbourne Inner Eastern Melbourne, North East Vic, and Whitehorse
2. Board annual performance review
The Board accepted the recommendation that an external facilitator conduct a review at the October meeting, in order to meet the new performance indicators for governance - PIC 1.4
3. Orientation to Divisions for DoHA staff
Helen, Susan, Sonya and Katie attended on 26 June to present our Orientation to Divisions workshop, adapted specifically for DoHA staff working with and funding divisions. In the report to the RIC the divisions' branch said -
“It provided an excellent introduction to how divisions work and are structured, and the implications for departmental programs”
4. CQI for NSW Divisions
The Board received information regarding invitations from NSW divisions to present a CQI and accreditation workshop and to facilitate a general workshop. GPDVs response has been that we are prepared to run a specific workshop on CQI for divisions as it is a topic in which Susan and Helen have special expertise and experience over many years, but have declined running general workshops for NSW divisions.
5. PSA meeting/dinner
Members of the board met members of the board of the Victorian branch of the Pharmaceutical Society for a dinner meeting on 11 August. In discussion members agreed that this was a good start to a relationship with PSA and that further meetings, with a formal agenda, should be arranged.
6. Western Australian SBO (WASBO)
The Board noted that the WA SBO will be re-established as a branch office of ADGP, rather than as an incorporated independent entity. This model, preferred by the majority of WA divisions and ADGP, has been agreed to by DoHA.
7. ADGP Rural Committee
The Board agreed with the recommendation from ADGP that the ADGP Rural Committee cease being a constitutional requirement of ADGP, but that it is not worth disrupting the AGM to achieve this.
8. GPR/HSD
The Board received an update from Scott that GPDV is currently into the sixth week of the GPR validation process which includes seeking authority from GPs for the transfer of their data to the Human Services Directory.
9. Benzodiazepines
The Board considered and discussed the issue, raised at a recent meeting of the GP/Psychiatry Liaison Meeting, through a GPDV Representative, regarding attitudes about benzodiazepines being expressed by some GPs and pharmacists. The Board agreed that the issue should be included on the PSA agenda as suitable topic with a view to setting consistent guidelines to eliminate conflicting advice/information.
10. Rural divisions and the Cancer Framework
The Board received comments from Julie and Nola about the DHS Cancer Services Framework. This was initially raised by rural divisions who have a major concern both because it appears the design of the framework is quite unsuitable for rural use and also because the paper does not contain much reference to general practice. GPDV will convey their comments to DHS.
11. Visit to Minister Gavin Jennings
Bill and Rosemary advised and updated the Board on their recent meeting with Minister Gavin Jennings.
The next meeting will be teleconference on Monday 26th September at 8pm
