In 2001 GPDV commissioned a consultancy to establish the role of GPDV in general practice workforce issues. That Report identified the following areas which are currently included in GPDV's Strategic Plan:

• Improving workforce data and planning
• Promoting Practice Nursing,
• Planning for After Hours Access,
• Supporting an increase in GPs working in Aboriginal Health and
• Supporting quality GP Education & Training
