Aged Care Homes

Introduction

In 2004 the Commonwealth Government introduced the Aged Care GP Panels Initiative ACGGPI to ensure better access to primary medical care for residents of aged care homes and to enable GPs to work with homes on quality improvement strategies for the care of all residents. Divisions of General Practice have a key role in implementing the ACGGPI. GPDV is the State Based organisation in Victoria with demonstrated experience in working in the area of GP Aged Care Homes interface, particularly in the commissioning of a study into the use of EPC items in Residential Aged Care in 2002 and participation in the VACGP subcommittee in 2003.

This website has been set up for the division of general practice aged care program staff responsible for rolling out the GP Panels initiative and will provide current information and resources to support their role. The Aged Care Homes sector may also find components of these web pages useful.

Lee Stamford is the Program Consultant at GPDV whose role is to support the Victorian Divisions of General Practice to roll out the GP Panels initiative and to work with key stakeholders.  Lee can be contacted at GPDV on (03) 9341 5220 or email l.stamford@gpdv.com.au.
